The UCLA Center on Child Welfare,
established in 1991 and Title IV-E funded, is
an innovative university-agency training collaboration between
the UCLA campus and one of the largest child welfare agencies
in the nation and world, the Los Angeles County Department of
Children and Family Services (DCFS). The Center's purpose is
threefold:
- Training the Center
on Child Welfare creates state-of-the-art trainings on best
practices for DCFS social workers, managers, and
administrators. Read more.
- Education
the CCW operates two Master's in social welfare
(MSW) specialized student units in DCFS, and oversees graduate
curricula and training in public child welfare in the UCLA
Department of Social Welfare. Read

- Research the Center
conducts research on retention of DCFS employees who
graduated from MSW programs, and research on adolescent
foster youth, permanency, mentoring, and emancipation
outcomes. Read more.
The Center on Child Welfare is part
of the Inter-University Consortium (IUC), comprised of
Schools/Departments of Social Work at six Southern California universities:
California State University Dominguez Hills, California
State University Long Beach, California State University
Los Angeles, California State University Northridge, University
of California Los Angeles,
and
University of Southern California.
Administrative offices of the Center on Child Welfare are
located in the Department of Social Welfare, School of
Public Affairs, on the UCLA campus. The UCLA Center on
Child Welfare Training site, which occupies over 6,000 square
feet, is located in the SkyPark Complex, Torrance, California.
