Lianne Urada is a doctoral student at UCLA in the Department of Social Welfare, School of Public Affairs.  She is a native of Los Angeles, but is an avid world traveler, who has visited twenty-five countries, spanning five continents. As a former graduate student of UCLA’s Master’s program in Social Welfare, she spent six months in a red light district in the Philippines, counseling street children and Commercial Sex Workers.  This led her to work for eight years in the non-profit sector with clients living with HIV/AIDS. She also took a job with the U.S. Agency for International Development West Coast office, which has inspired her to analyze U.S. foreign aid policy and its impact on developing nations. For the past three years, she was a UCLA Social Welfare Field Faculty member, and initiated internships in Africa, Asia, and Central America.  She currently does research and training for the UCLA Center on Child Welfare.
