Students from the Department of Social Welfare organized and participated in the annual legislative conference in Sacramento on March 8-9, 2009. Along with nearly 1,000 other working professionals and student of social work, the UCLA School of Public Affairs MSW students participated in training for effective legislative action, and spent a day visiting legislators to advocate on issues of social safety nets and the impact of budget cuts on the most vulnerable populations. Among the issues students advocated for are services for the elderly, children in the foster care system, and mental health services for youth.
