My research focuses on policy analysis of urban environment and development. In particular, my work centers on transportation, environmental quality and growth of Chinese cities. I have also studied the role of infrastructure investment in development and the impact of economic growth on the environment from a broader international perspective. I received the Taubman Urban Prize for my doctoral work on alternative assessment of passenger transportation modes in Chinese cities.

I am working on several research projects including (1) voluntary carbon emission reduction commitment by the U.S. cities, sponsored by the UCLA Ziman Center for Real Estate; (2) comparison of carbon emissions among Chinese cities, sponsored by the Lincoln Institute of Land Policy; (3) particulate matter air pollution's impact on housing price in Beijing; (4) environment effects of alternative transportation policies in Chinese cities; (5) city size, urban form, infrastructure and productivity in China.

My current teaching includes introductory environmental policy analysis, transportation and environmental issues, and advanced GIS analysis (applied spatial analysis). Teaching plans for the near future also include the political economy of the environment and urbanization and policy in China.
