International Programs Director Honored by French Government
Posted on May 08, 2003

Nga Nguyen-Scott

Nga Nguyen-Scott, Administrative Director of International Programs at the UCLA School of Public Policy and Social Research, was recently decorated by the French Government and made Chevalier dans l’Ordre des Palmes Académiques for services rendered to French culture and education. The Palmes Académiques was established in 1808 by Napoléon I and is the most prestigious decoration an academic can receive from the French Government.

Dr. Nguyen-Scott played the key role in organizing an exchange agreement between UCLA and l’Institut d’Etudes Politiques de Paris, as well as developing academic programs with many other French universities. In 1996, she assisted UCLA International Studies in obtaining funding for the establishment of a French Studies concentration at UCLA, and for various conference projects on the European Union, and U.S.- France relations.

“I am very honored by this award, and I am especially gratified to be able to connect UCLA students and faculty with some of the best academic institutions in France,” said Nguyen-Scott. The medal will be presented to Nguyen-Scott by the French Consul General in Los Angeles in a private ceremony in June.

Dr. Nguyen-Scott lectures in the UCLA Department of Policy Studies, and coordinates all international program activities for the UCLA School of Public Policy and Social Research, the Center for Globalization and Policy Research and the Canadian Studies Endowed Fund at UCLA.
