Woman Writing On A Virtual ChalkboardThe UCLA Juvenile Justice and Reentry Project conducts various research activities in order to further develop knowledge about successfully transitioning youth from incarceration back into the community.  Our current research goals include:

  • Review current best practices research in reentry, publishing and disseminating these results to community practitioners and stakeholders.
  • Use Geographic Information Systems (GIS) community mapping technology to assess the existing service environments in the eight Los Angeles Service Planning Areas for strengths, gaps, and needs, in order to inform future project goals and directions.
  • Conduct longitudinal research projects in the areas of treatment of youth offenders within the juvenile justice system, reentry, and the transition to adulthood.
  • Field test current and new innovations in reentry services that are rooted in a social welfare systems perspective.
