Madelyn Glickfeld teaches seminars on the environment at the Institute of the Environment, consults on both planning and implementation of conservation projects, does research and writing projects and develops educational conferences, workshops and panels related to sustainable development and the environment, natural resources, science, law and public policy and disaster management.
Through her consulting firm MJG Inc, she has done a large variety of work, including statewide strategic planning for the California State Park System, consulting with land trusts and local governments on conservation strategies, and working with EPA, nonprofit foundations and local government to better link transportation funding to its environmental impacts on water quality. She has also done research and consulting on storm water management in large scale developments to mitigate watershed and ocean pollution impacts.
Prior to returning to the University and her consulting practice, Ms. Glickfeld served as Assistant Secretary of the California Resources Agency from 2001 – 2003. Other posts held during the last ten years include: Policy Advisor to the Director of the California State Department of Parks and Recreation, Senior Research Fellow, Claremont Graduate University Research Institute, Executive Director Streisand Center for Conservancy Studies, and Senior Land Use Specialist, UCLA Extension Public Policy Program, where she developed many conferences around growth, development and natural resource conservation topics.
Ms. Glickfeld has held a variety of public service positions, including ten years as an appointee of the Senate Rules committee to the California Coastal Commission. During that time, she also served on the Board of the Santa Monica Bay Restoration Project and the Santa Monica Mountains Conservancy. She has been a Board Member of Heal the Bay since 1996 and is currently Vice President for Science and Policy for this regional nonprofit with a staff of 50 and a budget that is over $3 million per year. She joined the Board of the nonprofit Southern California Wildlands Project and the Board of the nonprofit Green Info Network, Inc in 2004.
Ms. Glickfeld is an Alumnus of the Former UCLA School of Architecture and Planning where she received a Masters of Science in Planning.
